Digital Archives

The following are several tricks of the trade for getting your digital publication noticed and read.

  • Don’t hide it. Digital publications get the most reads when they are emailed to customers. Whether it is simply a link or a formatted email with a cover image that links to the digital publication, you want to make it very easy for the readers to access the publication.

  • Regardless of whether or not you email the digital publication, you should always make the publication easy to spot and open on your Web site. If it is hidden deep within a navigational tab or if it is located on a page that gets little traffic, don’t expect many reads.

  • Spice it up. Even if you are simply transferring your print publication to digital there are ways to jazz it up. Ad internal and external links so the readers can get around your content and to your advertisers’ sites quickly. Insert videos when possible to create a multi-dimensional experience. If you have time, modify your publication to make it more online friendly. Some ideas for doing that include:

    • Use larger fonts, more images and leave more white space. The space is free so you can air it out.
    • Ensure there are plenty of links from the front of the book to the back portions so readers don’t simply close it after reading a few pages.
    • Use colors that work well on the Web.
    • Insert forms to collect data.

  • Use social media. Link to articles, photos, special publications, etc. Do not miss out on the free and powerful marketing tools that exist in social media channels.
